But by far, one of the most mesmerising is the use of watercolours to bring art to life. In case you were wondering, I’m not being paid by Waterlogue at all, I just really love this cool app and wanted to share it with you. Waterlogue (iOS) There are many different mediums to create art pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylics and oils.

Waterlogue is not a free app, it does cost ‎$2.99, but I think it is well worth the minimal price. That cute whale is the Waterlogue App brand logo. I will look for thinner watercolor paper and try again. I did try using some actual coldpress watercolor paper that I had on hand, but it was too thick for my printer. Be sure to have your printer settings set to best quality and use card stock paper. The app saves each watercolor pic in high resolution. If you decide to print it out, you can print it straight from your phone or email it to your home computer and print it from there. I switched over to the small brush strokes for the water photo below.

The app is so user friendly, and in addition to the filters, you can choose the size of the brush strokes and choose to make your painting darker or lighter. Photos of flowers and landscapes create gorgeous watercolor pics, but I found that photos of people didn’t always turn out the way I liked. I might experiment with the filters more on this photo. Now, I was a bit disappointed that the rainbow wouldn’t show up in the watercolor, but it still resulted in a beautiful painting. This pic was taken from the deck of my mom’s house. This river view shot was taken in Michigan at my friend’s woodland cabin. I was surprised to see all the gorgeous color the app chose for this picture below. It is amazing to see the transformation from photo to watercolor. Lastly you can save your watercolor masterpiece, download, share or print it. And if you try the filter and don’t like it then you can easily switch back to the original. What is nice is that it allows you to see a bit of a preview of how it will look. There are 12 different painting style filters to choose from. You can next decide if you like the way it looks or add a filter. Watch as a line drawing is first sketched, the the painting begins. Start by opening up the app, choosing your photo or pasting one in. This first pic was taken of my two sons playing at the beach in the Outer Banks of NC.Īll of these photos were taken with my iPhone, but you could also email yourself a picture from your computer, open up your email on your phone, save the pic to your phone, or screen shot the photo. What is nice about Waterlogue is that your pictures can be printed out into realistic, vibrant watercolor art and no one would ever guess that it came from a printer! Take a look at some examples that I created below. I am an artist and my favorite medium to paint with is watercolor and yes, I could paint my own works of art, but with Waterlogue anyone can be an instant artist! You will fall in love with Waterlogue! The app is called Waterlogue and it transforms your phone photos into beautiful works of watercolor art! As of right now, it is only for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. In order to get you started, here’s my favorite group of settings: Natural, Large, Darker, No Border.Last week a friend introduced me to the most amazing and fun app I’ve come across in a long time. I found myself digging through old pictures in order to find photos that would look good in the app. Like I said, I don’t like paying for apps, but this app got me excited. Then just export the painting to the photo library or social media. Not happy with the results? Tweak the settings a bit and try again.

Then the colors slowly fill in, with really nice animation too (in case you didn’t know, I’m a sucker for software eye candy). First it shows a paint-by-numbers style outline of the photo’s details. It takes a little while for the painting to complete, but Waterlogue adds a nice touch to this process.

After choosing your settings and a photo, the app goes to work. There’s also a brightness setting, and a border toggle, which gives the photo a 70s-print border with rounded corners (see photo 3), complete with a little paint that “accidentally” bled into the border. Think of it this way: the larger the “canvas,” the more detail in the painting. The next setting is the “size” of the watercolor. Some of these involve changes to standard photo attributes such as contrast, but many settings just change the look of the painting in an Instagram-filter sort of way. There are twelve different color presets in Waterlogue. I will however, outline the basic settings. I’m not going to spend a lot of time writing about Waterlogue and instead let the pictures do the talking.
